I really love a jalapeno margarita, but I probably never would have made one had I not bought way too many grapefruits than I knew what to do with. I love grapefruit, but really only when combined with other things. I think I am always looking for them to be as sweet as an orange, and am always disappointed. But on a rainy saturday, with nothing but time, and just happening to also have jalapenos... this did the trick!

This weekend it is pouring rain, although I doubt any of us mind that much considering it is 60 degrees, and last weekend it was snowing. Again. Even still, it is so grey, and being stuck inside all day was just making me crave something bright, fresh, and really flavorful. I have more citrus than I know what to do with, and oranges are so wonderful right now, that this salad was perfect. Finally! Ice cream success! This recipe is so decadent, light and fresh, flavorful, and just perfect in every way. There really is not much else to say about it. Knowing this is in my freezer as I type is getting me through the Monday blues.
In the fall and spring, I love an easy soup that is just as good at room temp as it is just made. This soup is perfect for lunches, and even to serve at a brunch. It is a little bit sweet, and a little bit spicy. When you're allergic to wheat, and you want crackers, you've got to make crackers. Although, I think this is something fun that everyone can do to make a cheese plate or appetizer more special. Ina does it!! So clearly I am, too! I had so many big plans for Oscars themed appetizers, and then my day got busy and I found myself with two hours of time to go, in which I also needed to shower and vacuum. Sundays! Caesar dressing gets a bad rep, and now I know why.
This is the Caesar dressing that my family grew up making (well, my second mom, Jamie, introduced to us and we made at all of our joint family holidays!) but that I just hadn't had in a few years. Clouded by ready-made and restaurant Caesars, I completely forgot how light, fresh, and flavorful it can be, and why I stopped ordering them out so many years ago! This is such a nice change from the standard vinaigrette, special enough to entertain with, and is bringing back the Caesar Salad for me in a big way. Add the garlic-grilled Romaine, and it is simply perfect. (Key word - simple!) I have been excited to try this cocktail for a few weeks now! I loved a classic shandy back in the gluten days, so finding this delicious alternative is a big win. I also finally had an excuse to buy a bottle of Cassis (!!!) making the casual Kir Royale, my favorite cocktail, within reach at all times. I suffer from extreme 'fear of missing out'. All the time. I just like being right in the middle of all of the action and knowing all of the details. Skip to hummus: how many more flavors will they come out with?! I needed to start replicating them immediately. |
